Dental implants are used to replace missing or damaged teeth. A dental implant is a titanium screw that is surgically implanted into the jaw and over time, fuses with the bone. This fusion usually takes up to 6 months. A crown is then placed on top of the screw or implant. Not all clients can have a dental implant, as bone density and volume, along with the opposing teeth are contributing factors to assess if a client is a suitable candidate to have an implant. Generally the implant is conducted in stages, the first of which is the placement of the titanium screw, followed by a 3-6 month period where the implant is not covered and left exposed to fuse with the bone. The next step is to attaching a post to the implant, and finally, to attach a crown to the implant and post.
